Manfredy Out of November 9 Bout
26.10 - A cut above the left eye has forced ANGEL MANFREDY to withdraw from his IBF lightweight title elimination bout against Victoriano Sosa, one of four main events on REAL FIGHTS!, the pay-per-view extravaganza, Saturday, November 9, in Chester, WV.
"It happened yesterday in the third and final round of sparring with Nate Campbell," said trainer Buddy McGirt from his gym at Vero Beach, FL.
"The cut is above the left eyebrow and it took just seven stitches to close. He should be able to resume his gym work within a few weeks."
Manfredy, 40-6-9 (29 KOs), currently world-rated No. 4 by the IBF, was training for an IBF lightweight title elimination bout against Sosa, 34-2-1 (24 KOs), the IBF's No. 5-rated lightweight contender.
The winner was to become the IBF's No. 1 lightweight contender and mandatory challenger to the winner of the Spadafora-Holbaek championship fight.
"Naturally we are disappointed but we'll find another real fight for Sosa on this card," said Michael Acri, the promoter of Real Fights!
"If Sosa can win his fight on November 9, I will reschedule Manfredy-Sosa for the early part of 2003. The doctor has said Manfredy can resume training within 30 days, which would mean I could reschedule this fight for as early as January."
