Winky Wright Translates Arumese for Oscar Avoiding Risks

"AS FOR WRIGHT, HE HAS TO GET BETTER KNOWN... SO I JUST DON'T SEE THAT FIGHT HAPPENING
AT THIS TIME." - Bob Arum

"ARE YOU NUTS?! NO WAY I'M PUTTING OSCAR IN WITH WINKY WRIGHT BEFORE I PICK UP AN EASY PAYDAY AGAINST SHANE MOSLEY!" - Arumese Translation, courtesy Winky Wright

18.09 - On the heels of the biggest victory of Oscar De La Hoya's professional boxing career, his promoter, Bob Arum, is allowing the "Golden Boy" to kiss greatness goodbye.

De La Hoya, who successfully defended his WBC super welterweight title by knocking out WBA champion Fernando Vargas in the 11th round of their fight Saturday night, was two-thirds of the way towards becoming an undisputed unified world champion for the very first time. But under the guise of avenging losses, De La Hoya and Arum have only mentioned two names for Oscar's next fight: Felix Trinidad, who has retired, Shane Mosley, who has lost his last two fights.

"There was Oscar being interviewed after the fight stating he wanted to establish his legacy in boxing by fighting only the best to end his career and then he walks away from his chance to make history, to fight for all three major belts in the 154-pound division and achieve something he has never done before, be an undisputed unified world champion," said IBF jr. middleweight champion WINKY WRIGHT 44-3 (25 KOs).

"It was a great event and Oscar deserves all the credit that is being heaped on him, but why stop there? Make history and fight me for my belt too. If his promoter thinks I need to get better known, I will embark on a whistlestop tour throughout every major Hispanic market. New York, Chicago, Miami, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and California. I will even go to Mexico. I have defeated 44 men in eight different countries on four different continents. Do you think a little travel is going to bother me? I will even assume his mandatory and defend my title against Francisco Castillejo to make it easier on him."

Wright successfully defended his title in eight rounds, September 7, defeating No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger Bronco McKart. The fight was televised nationally on HBO.

"Oscar, fight me. Don't kiss greatness goodbye."
