Gary Shaw adds Mabuza & N'Dou to November 9 Card

09.10 - A great card has been elevated to a superstar event with the addition of two international stars to the November 9 card headlined by a super welterweight showdown of former world champions, Sharmba Mitchell and Vince Phillips, and 2000. U.S. Olympian Jeff Lacy's first title shot, against WBC Continental Americas super middleweight champion Ross Thompson.

Promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, in association with The Sports Entertainment & Media Group PLC, Golden Lion Productions, Holden Productions, Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing and Budweiser, Gary Shaw announced today that undefeated IBO world bantamweight champion SILENCE MABUZA, 12-0 (11 KOs), from South Africa, in his U.S. debut, will make his first defense of the title he won in March via a sixth-round knockout of Jose Sanjuanelo. Mabuza will face former WBO Latin America bantamweight champion and former WBO title challenger Javier Torres, 34-17-9, from Argentina.

Former WBU super featherweight champion and top-rated contender, PHILLIP N'DOU, 28-1 (27 KOs), also from South Africa, will fight in a 10-round bout to further solidify his claim to another world title shot.

Originally slated for the Coca-Cola Arena in Oklahoma City, the addition of these stars has forced the event to be moved to the larger 15,000-seat Cox Convention Center to accommodate the public's demand for tickets.

The Mitchell-Phillips, Lacy-Thompson and N'Dou bouts will be televised live nationally on "SHOWTIME Championship Boxing," beginning at 10 PM ET and on tape-delay to the west coast at 10 PM PT. The Mabuza-Torres title fight will be televised live to Europe and South Africa exclusively.

Mabuza goes by the ring name "The Real Deal," and so far, he has not been disproved. Twelve fights. Twelve victories, 11 by knockout! Last year, in only his ninth professional fight, Mabuza stepped up and fought Johannes Maisa, 16-1. It was the only time Mabuza was extended beyond the sixth round. Mabuza stopped him cold in the ninth round. Two fights later, Mabuza claimed the IBO bantamweight title, knocking out the defending champion, Jose Sanjuanelo in the sixth round. At this rate, "The Real Deal," may earn a new ring name, "The Bantamweight Buzzsaw."

Torres has held the Argentine and South American jr. bantamweight and the WBO Latin American bantamweight titles. He went the distance against WBO bantamweight champion Johnny Tapia in 2000, losing by decision.

N'Dou is known as "The Time Bomb" for his unpredictable explosiveness. His professional career has taken place mostly in South Africa and England where he has earned a loyal following of fans who have enjoyed his "knockout performances." The last time he fought in North America, he scored two title victories within a 34-day span. N'Dou knocked out Manuel Sepeda, November 11, 2000, in Las Vegas, to capture the WBA International featherweight title. He traveled north to Montreal, Canada, and knocked out Jesus Zatarin for the WBC International super featherweight title on December 15, 2000. N'Dou added the WBU super featherweight title to his trophy case last year, stopping Carlos Rios in the fifth round. After successfully defending the title in March -- a sixth-round knockout of Nikolai Eremeev -- N'Dou vacated the title to pursue a world title shot against another big name world champion: Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
