07.04 - Swedish lightweight Thomas Jansson retained his European union lightweight title via a 10 round split decision over local Alberto "Tito" Lopez of Spain in Benidorm, Spain, Sunday night. Also victorious: Norwegian javelin thrower Pål Arne Fagernes, who knocked out Slovakian Peter Simko with a vicious punch. It was the Norwegians first boxing bout ever (amateur and pro).
26-year old Norwegian bantamweight, Reidar Walstad (now 5-0-1) floored his opponent, Oleg Mustafini of Portugal in the fifth, followed up well and finished him off in that round.
Stylish junior welterweight, Sören Engelbrecht had a well-schooled Pole on his hands by the name of Patrick Prokopecz. Although not performing at his best, Engelbrecht fired off some beautiful combinations and dominated the early stages of the fight, while the Pole came strongly towards the end. Patrick rocked the Dane in the fifth and was clearly the superior fighter in the two last rounds. The bout was rightly declared a draw (split verdict) and rendered Engelbrecht his first blemish on his record (8-0-1) but he still remains undefeated.
Norwegian lightweight Geir Inge Jörgensen made it 13-0 by outscoring Freddy Monar of Ecuador over six rounds. Jörgensen had problems with the South American's rough tactics initially but got over it gradually and took over towards the end.
Danish heavy Thomas Sörensen scored a late, and not very impressive, fourth round KO over limited Rumanian, Ion Mihai. Sörensen now undefeated over 10 fights with 9 knockouts to his credit.
At light heavyweight, Pole, Thomas Adamek won a six round verdict over travelling journeyman, Zoltan Beres of Hungary.
