LENNOX LEWIS SCORES LEGAL KNOCKDOWN!

10.05 - Undisputed world heavyweight champion LENNOX LEWIS was granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) by Justice Herman Cahn of the New York State Supreme Court today. The TRO bars Mike Tyson and Don King from settling their lawsuits against each other without first giving Lewis' attorney, Judd Burstein, three (3) days notice so that he may make the appropriate objections. Additionally, Justice Cahn barred HBO and SHOWTIME from paying any monies they may presently owe King from past bouts, including the recent Roy Jones, Jr.-John Ruiz bout.

The TRO extends until May 19, when Burstein and the attornies for King and Tyson will return to Court to address Lewis' motion seeking to attach any of the proceeds of Tyson's suit against King, and to bar HBO and SHOWTIME from paying any money to King during the pendency of Lewis' lawsuit.

"The successful motion for a restraining order was based in part upon the complaint's allegations that King had successfully interfered with Lewis' rights to a Tyson bout," said Burstein. "The complaint further alleges that King had also sought to settle his case with Tyson through, among other things, fraud, a death threat and bribery. Significantly, we have a sworn statement from the death threat victim, confirming that such threat had occurred."

Lewis and Lion Promotions, LLC filed suit in New York court yesterday against Tyson, King, Mike Tyson Enterprises, Inc., and Don King Productions, Inc., seeking $35 million and $350 million in compensatory and punitive damages, respectively, relative to Tyson withdrawing from the June 21 event at STAPLES Center headlined by Lewis' world title defense against Kirk Johnson and Tyson not honoring the rematch clause of their two fight contract.

NOTE: Justice Cahn's TRO is available by fax or email upon request.
