CHRISTY MARTIN VS. MIA ST. JOHN IS STILL ON FOR TONIGHT

06.12 - Despite reported financial difficulties, the hotly disputed fight between Christy Martin and Mia St. John will take place tonight from the Pontiac Silverdome. The fight card, featuring the World Boxing Council's (WBC) "Pound-for-Pound" Women's world championship, will begin at 9 p.m. ET live on pay per view, and is available in both English and Spanish.

"We are going ahead with this fight despite no reassurance from the promoter that we will be paid," Christy and Jim Martin said. "We have been looking forward to facing St. John for three years. Despite the problems, we will move ahead with the fight for the fans even though we have not seen a dime."

Martin (44-2-2, 31 KOs) weighed in for tonight's pay-per-view event at 144 pounds, while St. John (26-1-1, 13 KOs) tipped the scales at 140 ¼. The two women will headline a four-fight televised card that also features two-time world champion Junior Jones (50-5, 28 KOs) facing Ivan Alvarez (18-12, 8 KOs) in a featherweight bout. Alvarez was a last-minute replacement on the card, stepping in for the injured "Sugar" Rey Beltran.

The two remaining fights pit Freeman Barr (23-2, 11 KOs), from Naples, Fla., against Mike Coker (9-6-1), from Ozark, Ala., in a super middleweight special attraction, and a welterweight contest featuring Hugo Vargas (2-2, 2 KOs), from LaBelle, Fla., facing Arturo Barrazza (2-0, 1 KO), from Oxnard, Calif.

Promoted by Revolution Fighting, Inc., of Ann Arbor, Mich., this action-packed event will be available in both English and Spanish to living rooms across North America live via pay per view at 9 p.m. ET with a suggested retail price of $24.95. Fans should contact their local cable or satellite company service provider for times.
