Sanders relinquishes WBO title!

07.10 - On Tuesday Vernon Smith, promoter of WBO heavyweight champion Corrie Sanders, informed boxingpress.de, the leading internet source for german boxing fans, of his fighter's decision to relinquish the WBO heavyweight title.

The decision was made due to "insurmountable disagreements concerning the signing of a contract with Universum Box Promotion" said Smith. The wrangle had already forced Sanders to pull out of his scheduled October 18 title defence against WBO-#1 Lamon Brewster in Hamburg.

The root of Sanders's problem with german promoters Universum is a pre-fight contract he was forced to sign to secure his March 8 shot against Wladimir Klitschko. Because of his win against the Ukrainian, that contract is effective for his next four fights. The 37- year-old south african is now confident to secure a top ranking at the annual WBC convention in Moscow he attends since Sunday.
