Boxings Baddest: The Fan’s Speak! V2. Issue 3

Mike Samuels

05.10 - It’s been a few weeks since the fans have been able to let out their views on this STILL crazy world of boxing. Since the last issue Fernando Vargas has been doping up, Mayweather and Castillo’s rematch is now off until God knows when, and October is looking to be the biggest month of boredom in boxing in some time, with almost nothing happening worth while. Enough of the complaints, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty opinions of those people that make this website what it is! Speak loud, my fellow fans!

Nice come back on the jack-off with the Dougie fixation, bro. Just two points tho': 1. this ain't journalism - journalism is no place for airing opinions, man; journalism is telling it how it is with NO sway, prejudice, bias, subjectivity - you got to be neutral and present EVERY side. What you're talking is editorial, which is completely different, altho' few hacks these days remember that. 2. You mean WHO the hell am I, WHOM is the object pronoun: who am I, I am whom - see the difference. Nice writing tho - I'm jus' bored and drunk enough to wanna school your grammar...

The jack-off who thinks I’m biting Dougie is just a moron (you get those types of people no matter what you do for a living); so don’t let him bother you. I took care of business like I’m supposed too. I agree that this is not journalism, but the whole concept of my duties to this website are to be a journalist. My work grows around being a journalist and most of my articles are non-bias and straight off facts.

This, however, is a "letters to the editor" type feature so I acknowledge that it isn’t strictly journalism. (Who wants to actually take my opinions seriously anyway? What do I know?!) I think you were just a bit too buzzed to get the whole concept right. No biggy my man. The whole deal with the typo kills me! I had it as "WHO" but the damn-editing program went whacko and it came out wrong. Thanks for being on top of your game enough to catch it, and watch the drinks!

Great story on the fight Mike, love your thoughts and insight. Great job! I too favored Delahoya, although I knew he would be in a heck of fight. Vargas was stronger and bigger but Oscar paced himself, weathered the storm, and when he needed to, he traded shots with him. I loved the outcome and if anything, the only thing I would take from Vargas is how he couldn't even give Oscar his props for winning the fight. I've read that his trainer, doctor, and managers were just in a hurry to get him to the hospital. That may be true but not hearing anything in almost a week from Vargas doesn't do anything positive to his image. Oscar is a true gentleman of the sport, a ring technician, and deserves his props for fighting the best and being a professional in and out of the ring. But Oscar, do us a favor......"PLEASE FORGET HOPKINS". Thanks Mike for your comments. Great reading.

Vargas is young and when he was knocked out by De la Hoya it strung the shit out of his pride. The kid was hurt. After all, he put everything into this fight and came out on the losing side. At first I was a bit annoyed that he didn’t give Oscar his props or even speak to Merchant afterwards, but I understand that he didn’t know where he was, and with the death of Alcazar a few months ago the Nevada State Commission didn’t want to take any chances. Let’s hope that Vargas is a true warrior – like he says – and gives De la Hoya his props in person. I’m sure he will.

I think anyone with HALF a brain would agree that Oscar De la Hoya should NEVER face Bernard Hopkins. Vargas (doped or not doped) was applying enough pressure to rattle De la Hoya and I just don’t see Oscar being able to beat Hopkins, based mainly on the fact that Hopkins is naturally bigger and could box circles around Nando’. Only time can tell.

Right on.

I like to see such attention being paid to the smaller weight divisions and the non-"star" fighters like Casamayor. I think Casamayor is a better fighter than most fans are willing to give credit, and I also think a fight with him and Mayweather would be a great match up, probably better than Mayweather-Castillo, which Mayweather will win easily this time.

It’s a shame that the lightweight guys (especially Tim Austin) don’t get enough big fights or coverage. Casamayor is a great fighter, but he isn’t quite enough for the Pretty Boy. Personally I see Mayweather beating him pre-Freitas defeat, and even eaiser now. However, with Mayweather’s continuing out of the ring problems Casamayor could use a big fight with Mayweather to regain some of his confidence. That makes him even more dangerous than before in most aspects of the game. Only time will tell and lets hope this fight happens sometime down the road.

I gotta say all these three guys is great fighters, man: pretty boy, he got the moves, but I'd love to see Castillo or Joel knock that punk on his ass. But I hear young Floyd could be about to have his ring career railroaded by the courts - it seems the young punk just can't stop beating up on his ex-girl and jus violated his probation running the poor girl off the road...CJ

Mayweather not only has brittle hands but a pretty rough past with the courts since joining up with that phony rapper wanna-be Prince. I’d hate to see his career go down the drain on account of violations. Right now there are no charges being pended against Pretty Boy because it appears he wasn’t driving the vehicle, but you never know with arrogance, money and fame. The world is a dangerous place, especially when you’re on top of it.
