US Debut This Weekend For Evans Ashira!

14.2 - Third time lucky! Evans "The African Warrior" Ashira, 21-0 (11) will finally make his American debut, when he enters the ring this Saturday night at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The WBA´s # 9 ranked middleweight will be on the untelevised undercard of the HBO broadcasted IBF bantamweight world title fight between Tim Austin and Rafael Marquez.

Ashira has had January 4th and January 25th dates cancelled for various reasons, but now the 1996 olympian, and former undefeated IBA world champion, should be ready to rumble on this show, staged by his promoter Don King. The Danish-based Kenyan´s WBA International title will not be on the line, as was orriginally planed in the fights that got cancelled.

The opponent in the opposite corner is yet to be announced, but to Ashira it makes no difference at all: "I just want to fight, and I just want to win! Doesnt matter to me who the opponent is, im a professional" he says upon arriving in Las Vegas after a month-long stay at DKP´s Florida training camp. Sparring sessions with WBA 168 lb. champion Byron Mitchell, and highly touted prospect Roshii "Mongoose" Wells, have made Ashira sharp and ready to perform.

"I have had great work in Florida, and I am ready to fight. Maaaaan, I am looking forward to this" says Ashira, who is a national hero in Kenya, and a very popular boxer in his second homeland; Denmark. Like most boxers, Ashira is dreaming of a world title in one of the four major organizations, and Saturday night he feels will be a nice step in the right direction:

"I am boxing in one of the most famous fight-towns in the world, and in one of the most famous boxing-venues in the world, and I am going to do my best to make the most of it!"
