Hansvoll Challenged By Novice!

06.12 - Former WBA World light heavyweight title challenger Thomas Hansvoll from Norway recently announced, that he will be moving up to the cruiserweight division. Instantly, he was challenged by one of the weightclass´ premier names in Scandinavia.

Former Finnish amateur star; Allan "Machoman" Grönfors, made his name in Scandinavian boxing circles, when he travelled to Denmark in October, and knocked out local brawler Rasmus Iversen inside two minutes of the very first round. The result came as a shock to many, but now Grönfors is ready to prove that he is, if not the best, then atleast one of the very best 190 pounders in Scandinavia.

Even though he only has seven paid fights under his belt (7-0, 4 KO), Grönfors firmly believes that he can beat Hansvoll, 23-3-1 (7). And as Moders Sports & Events, Hansvoll´s promotional firm, will promote a show in Helsinki, Finland on February 1st, the opportunity could be there soon. If only Hansvoll and his people dares to take the fight. Something "The Machoman´s" manager; Jaakko Helminen, seriously doubts:

"This would be a very big fight in Finland, and something that would definitely bring in a lot of spectators to the arena. And since Allan is practically a novice compared to Hansvoll, I dont see why they would be afraid to take the fight. But I do doubt that they will be up for it, and if not, how can Hansvoll expect to be a contender in this weightclass? This is a meaningfull fight at this stage of both boxers careers, and we are ready to go for it. Question most certainly is: will they be?"

Hansvoll, who lost a very close twelve round decision to WBA light heavyweight champion Bruno Girad in May, last fought in October, when he stopped American Journeyman Jesse Corona in two rounds in Schwerin, Germany. Grönfors scored his seventh straight win last Friday, when he kayoed Hungarian Attila Huszka in round one in Helsinki. If he will get the chance to do the same to Hansvoll, remains to be seen...
