GAB TO DO MORE BOXING SEMINARS IN THE PHILIPPINES

28.11 - MAKATI CITY, Philippines The Games and Amusement Board (GAB) plans to have more boxing seminars next year in different parts of the country after conducting two successful workshops in two different provinces this month.
According to GAB boxing chief Emmanuel Flores, their one-day seminar held separately at the VIP Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City last November 16 and at the Holiday Plaza Hotel in Cebu City last November 22 was a huge success.
This after noted boxing personalities like promoters Rex Wakee Salud, Sammy Gello-ani, Terry Carter, Tony Martin as well as boxers and trainers from various provinces attended the GAB-sponsored seminars.
GAB chairman Eduardo Villanueva graced the affair along with commissioners Emmanuel Palabrica and Angel Bautista.
During the seminar, Flores discussed on their updated rules being implememented particularly the importance of undergoing Hepatitis B examination for boxers applying for a license. Flores is a member of the prestigious WBC ratings committee.
Noted judge and referee Ferdinand Estrella explained the duties, fairness and technical knowledge of a boxing judge while international referee Bruce McTavish focused on the importance of a referees physical fitness and responsibilities.
GAB Physician Dr. Naseer Cruz emphasized the medical safety and requirements for all boxers.
Also tackled were obligations of promoters and managers to all their boxers as well as requirements for boxers fighting abroad.
Flores added they are finalizing plans of conducting another seminar in Manila this coming December 12.
