Paro, Gorres score impressive KO’s

By Dennis Principe

02.09 - BANILAD, CEBU CITY – Top Filipino superflyweight contender Sherwin Paro and stablemate Z Gorres made mincemeat of their respective opponents as the two Cebuano boxers won by impressive stoppages Saturday night in a free-to-the-public boxing card at the Gaisano Country Mall carpark in this city.

The 20-year old Paro stopped veteran international campaigner Jun Pader in the 3rd round of their scheduled 10-round non-title fight.

The right-handed Paro (12-0, 8 KO’s), an undefeated prized find from Carmen, Cebu, had a hard time holding down the wily Pader who fought cautiously by moving away from the former’s vaunted left-right conbinations.

By the third round, an unwearied Paro sharply pressed Pader off the ropes until finally snaring the latter with a wicked left hook to the ribcage.

Pader, who once gallantly fought but lost to ex-WBC champ Wandee Chareon, instantly crumpled to the canvass and was not able to beat the count, giving Paro an easy 3rd round knockout win at 2:44 of the said round.

In the co-mainer, the career of the once highly-touted Gorres got back on track after scoring a similar 3rd round disposal off knockout artist and RP #10 Rommel Libradilla.

The 21-year old Gorres, whose last fight was a forgettable 9th round TKO loss to Edgar Rodrigo in a botched RP title defense last June 1, displayed his awesome fighting skills for two impressive rounds then flattened Libradilla with a perfectly-timed left straight in the 3rd round.

A wobbly Libradilla got up at the count of eight but referee Teddy Alivio wisely stopped the match to shield the shaky boxer further punishment and give Gorres a convincing 3rd round TKO win.

After the boxing card which was viewed by an estimated 5,000 crowd despite a looming downpour, Paro and Gorres expressed their willingness to vie for the local title before the end of the year.

Paro is eyeing a date with newly-crowned RP superflyweight champion Ramie Laput of Davao City while Gorres is agitating for a rematch with title tormentor Rodrigo.
