DARCHINIAN MAULS MONTIEL!

By Tony Nobbs

10.08 - Armenian Olympian Vic Darchinian, now training out of Team Fenech in Sydney, took his record to 18-0, 13 KO with a ten round beating of Mexican Alejandro Montiel (47-6, 27 KO) at the Panther Leagues Club, Penrith, West Sydney on Friday night. Billed as an IBF official Flyweight eliminator, no. 4 rated Darchinian's dominance of the no. 6 ranked veteran from Los Lochis was so one-sided judges cards were 100-83, 100-84 and 100-88.

The former WBC Americas and Mexican champ was mainly concerned with survival and had a tough time getting any sort of offence going as southpaw Darchinian swamed him. Alejandro's experience was the only thing that kept him in there, especially early, often spitting his mouthguard or fouling Vic to buy time. Montiel certainly didn't live up to his nickname of Good Boy! Going in, Montiel, 32, was no.5 on the computerised world listings. A big win for Darchinian whose stable mate Hussein Hussein fights for the WBC Fly title in Thailand in October. Darchinian weighed 111.76 lb. Montiel,111.91 lb. Montiel's last outing was a twelve round UD loss to Irene Pacheo for the IBF Title in November.

Nader Hamden won a ten round decision over Josh Clenshaw, middleweights. A willing and entertaining slug. The pair have fought on four occasions, Nader winning each, the last three on points-the first by a round stoppage.

Nedal "Skiny Hussein, WBC no 2 Super Bantam outclassed Argentine Marcelo Ackermann with the referee stopping fight just before the bell ending round one.

Russian Vctor Oganov, now campaigning out of Angelo Hyder's Central Coast Boxing Club stopped Paul Smallman in round two, light heavyweight's. Body shots and uppercuts set up the win. Oganov is now 21-0, all wins inside distance. Oganov is no 1 for the PABA Super Middleweight Belt.

Classy Johnny Lewis trained Guyanan Gairy St.Clair scored a four round TKO over inexperienced Indonesian Untong Ortega, lightweights. Sydney based St Clair boxed along at sparing pace - or less.

Brett Smith knocked out once useful Justin Clements in 36 seconds of round one, cruisers. A southpaw left uppercut and follow up did the job.
