02.02 - This last Thursday night, it came as no surprise when, the excellant South African and WBC International champion at super feather, Mzonke Fana won the South African fighter of the year. The event was held at the Sandton Crown Plaza up here in Gauteng. Fana, who just recently defended his South African title for the seventh time, is on one big roll, he has not lost a contest since December 1999 (when travelling to London he was outpointed by Dean Pithie for the WBC International title) and is currently on a 7 fight winning streak.

Currently rated no.9 by the W.B.C.,South African boxing fans are starting to call out for Phillip "The Time Bomb" Ndou, (who is rated at no.2 at the same weight),to get in the ring to decide who is the best super feather in the country.

This type of fight would attract a huge South African audience. Prospect of the Year, went to a very talented Samuel Malinga who is currently on a 7 fight winning streak as well. He fights in the superlightweight division and is currently rated no.1 in South Africa.

The fight of the Year, went to Cassius Baloyi and Mbulelo Botile in which Baloyi won in the 11th round by way of TKO when Botile turned his back after the fight being balanced on a tight rope. In the Process Baloyi retained his IBO super feather title for the first time since winning it in a vacant contest against Tiger Ari.
