Ron "Champ" Miller

01.08 - Hello fight fans!!!!!!! Another article within a week? For sure. In my old age, I forgot about a few things. Either that or perhaps I did it on purpose. With that, read on.

I forgot to talk about ole Roy Jones Jr. Or did I? Jones has done nothing since beating Johnny "Louise" Ruiz. His "big" fight with Holyfield fell through. Now he is talking about Lennox Lewis? Please. Roy needs to face either Chris Byrd, Antonio Tarver or the winner of the Holyfield/Toney fight. That would be his best bet. But knowing Jones, he will sit on his laurels. He beat a guy who was knocked out in 19 seconds by David Tua. Seems Jones only fights guys he KNOWS he can beat. "Ya'll musta forgot?". No Roy I remember. How your competition is lacking other than Bernard Hopkins or James Toney.

Fights are won in the ring. Sure he may have beaten Liles, Eubanks, Benn, McClellan, Little. Maybe. But fights aren't won on paper. If that was the case, why would the NFL play on Sundays? As John Madden said, "That's why we play the games". The Rams on paper destroy the Patriots. Green Bay beats the donkies. The Raiders beat the Bucs. But thats the problem. You have to play the games.

Not saying Jones would not have beaten the above metioned men, but he would have to go 5-0. In all fairness, I think the McClellan match might have been made if not for the incompetence of a referee. But that what bothers me about Roy. He NEVER faced any of those guys, so who knows? No doubt Roy Jones is a talented, skilled fighter. No one has questioned that. He has always been either my #1 P4P fighter or #2. But the fact remains his resume well, lacks meat. Beating firemen, trashmen and cops, doesnt do it. He took a step when he beat Ruiz. But he still has a long way to go before he cements his legacy with me.

Champs flurries: Looks like Tyson is in trouble again. Any one surprised? Perhaps we should stop making excuses for Mike and call a spade a spade. Some of you have asked why I like to mix sports, and politics. I enjoy talking about a wide variety of subjects. I don't limit myself to just boxing. As far as Tito goes, I just find the handwrap issue still compelling. So I'm not saying he is a cheat or not, but when I saw them wrapping Daniel Seda's hands a few months ago in P.R. it looked like a lotta guaze, especially around the knuckles. And William Joppy said he never got hit that hard by anyone. Add that to the fact David Reid and Fernandomania Vargas careers were ended, just makes me wonder. That's it.

While on the 405 freeway (Angelinos know the deal) I started thinking about the state of boxing. Not great. Ever since the meteor known as Mike Tyson was grounded, boxing has been in a funk. The "next big thing" has turned into a pumpkin every time.

Why was I on the 405? I was heading to watch the Angels play the Yankees at the "Big A". Andy Petitte pitched a gem, as they beat the Angels. Baseball is the most affordable game in town. Tickets for a preseason NBA game are 100 bucks!!!. I like Hockey, but am the minority. Arena football is ok, but I prefer the NFL, which of course LA doesnt have. The 2nd biggest TV market doesn't have football. And its been a while. But I'm not surprised. Los Angeles fans show up in the 3rd inning and leave in the 6th. I was at Dodger Stadium last month and noticed this. Not to mention the fact when people talk about Kirk Gibson's homerun, I remember the seeing the car lights as people were leaving. Unreal. But thats La La land.

Speaking of baseball, what about these trades? Bret Boone cries and is let out of Cincinnati ONLY to be brought to the Yankees? Do the Yankees ever NOT get another piece of the puzzle? I was surprised A-Rod isn't in Yankee pinstripes, YET. Ventura to the Dodgers? Brilliant move LA. Ventura is old, WAY past his prime. Hopefully the Glaser family will buy the Dodgers.

GO see Seabiscuit!!! Being in the racing industry, I recommend this movie. It starts off good but it does level off quite a bit at the end. Not to mention that the facts are changed a bit to suit Hollywood(Nothing new here as Rubin Hurricane Carter is depicted as a hero of sorts). But McGuire, Daniels and Hill give good performances. I didn't see much of a difference when I was at the track last week. I was Hollywood Park, but it seemed to be the same amount of people. I did however hit a couple of exactas wheeling the favorites with all. Didn't pay alot, but well, they DID pay. Hit the Pick 3, but again, I had 2 BIG favorites in the first 2 legs and wouldn't you know it, a favorite comes in the last leg. So it payed like 11 bucks. Be aware of your surroundings at the track. You know, the degenerates, low lifes and people you wouldn't give the time of day to. Keep your wallet near you at all times.

Great news conference by our President. He needs to do more of these as he comes across as likable and normal. The common man. His father and William"Slick Willy" Clinton had more of these than Bush at the same time in their presidency. The American people like GW Bush. No doubt. So for all you haters and "limosuine Liberals" look forward to another four years.

I dont see any big fights this weekend, but I can't wait for the A. Echolls - Anthony"Bumdine" fight next week. The money is going on Tony. Must be those whacko Australians!!! Bumdine will be put asleep early. I haven't forgotten his stupid remarks a few yrs back. He will pay. BET THIS FIGHT!!!!!

I want to give shout out to the British. These are our REAL true allies, unlike the Frenchies or Canadians or the other "so called" allies. Hang tight Prime Minister Blair. We support you!!! A big ups to our friends with the accents. Much thanks for years of service!!!!!I know we don't say it enough so I am saying it now. Long live the Queen and Lennox Lewis and long may he reign!!! That's it fight fans!!!!!!! Keep your hands up and keep punching for the stars!!!! 0 comments
