Main Events Inks Buddy McGirt

03.01 - Buddy McGirt, the two-time world champion who has emerged as boxing’s hottest trainer, has signed an exclusivity deal with Main Events, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Effective immediately McGirt’s primary responsibility will be to make himself available to train Main Events’ boxers. The agreement allows McGirt to train non-Main Events promoted boxers, but only if given clearance by Main Events.

McGirt has been selected as 2002 “Trainer of the Year” by several media outlets, including The Boston Globe and ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights”. The Brentwood, NY native choreographed the game-plan behind Arturo Gatti’s dominating victory over Micky Ward in their November 23 rematch.

Besides Gatti, McGirt also trains Main Events rising jr. lightweight star Nate Campbell (23-0, 21 KO’s), who is battling former world champion Joel Casamayor on Jan 25.

“I’d like to thank Main Events for giving me the opportunity to work with their fighters, and for allowing me to work with other fighters” said McGirt. “Most promoters are selfish. They wouldn’t let you do that. I have the best of both worlds and I’d like to thank them for it.”

“Main Events is excited about giving our current fighters, and any fighters we sign in the future, an opportunity to work with McGirt should they choose,” said Duva.

McGirt joins an already impressive list of trainers who work with Main Events’ fighters, including Ronnie Shields and Mark Breland.
