Main Events Returns To RexPlex In Elizabeth, NJ On Jan 10 For TeleFutura-Televised Fight Card

02.01 – Professional boxing returns to northern New Jersey on Friday, January 10 when the RexPlex Sports Complex in Elizabeth, NJ hosts an exciting evening of boxing promoted by Main Events, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. In the 12 round main event, Washington Heights lightweight Justo “Sensational” Sencion seeks to unseat WBC Continental Americas lightweight champion Eleazar Contreras in a 12 round bout. The co-feature pits undefeated Paterson, NJ jr. welterweight Freddie Cadena against Sacramento, CA native Rogelio Castaneda (14-8-2, 5 KO’s) in an eight round contest. Both bouts will be broadcast live on Telefutura, beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Sencion (20-2-1, 11 KO’s) has won four of his last five fights. The 23-year-old Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native is the former Dominican Republic 130 lb. champion and the former New York State jr. lightweight champion. He won his first 16 bouts as a pro before being stopped by Julio Diaz on April 28, 2001 in an unsuccessful bid for Diaz’s NABA lightweight crown (TKOby 10). In his last bout on September 13, 2002, Sencion lost a questionable decision to Roque Cassiani (L 10).

Contreras (18-2-2, 8 KO’s) captured the WBC Continental Americas lightweight title in his last bout on November 7, 2002, blasting Courtney Burton in five rounds (KO 5). The 22-year-old Bakersfield, CA native has won three of his last four bouts. The sole blemish on his record during this time span was a 10 round draw against Eduardo Castillo on January 17, 2002 (D 10). He has been stopped only once in his career -- on October 13, 2001, when he suffered a second round knockout at the hands of Francisco “Panchito” Bojado (KOby 2).

Cadena (15-0, 10 KO’s) has stopped five opponents within the first two rounds. The 26-year-old Paterson, NJ native has knocked out three of his last four opponents.

On the undercard Toms River, NJ middleweight Bear Sanders (2-0, 2 KO’s) battles Havana, Cuba native Andres Filiberto Larrinaga (2-5, 1 KO) in a four rounder, while Bayonne, NJ middleweight Dennis Sharpe (13-0, 3 KO’s) challenges Charleston, SC native Earl Allen (11-14-2, 1 KO) in an eight rounder.

Staten Island, NY middleweight Tim O’Neil (1-1, 1 KO) competes in a four rounder against an opponent yet to be determined.
