MCCLINE, CASAMAYOR EYE IMPORTANT WINS OCT. 3, OCT. 4

19.08 - Two world-ranked fighters under Cedric Kushner Promotion's banner–heavyweight Jameel McCline and super featherweight Joel Casamayor–confidently anticipate wins in important bouts on nationally televised cards by Showtime Friday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 4, in Las Vegas.

McCline meets undefeated Cedric Boswell in the 10-round main event on a card televised by Showtime Oct. 3 while Casamayor faces highly regarded Diego Corrales in the 10-round semi-main event on a card televised by Showtime PPV Oct. 4.

"I'm looking forward to this fight, which will help catapult me to the top," said McCline, who has a record of 29-3-3 with 17 knockouts.

"After I win, I'm sure I'll be regarded as one of the best heavyweights in the world," said McCline.

Casamayor, the former World Boxing Association super featherweight champion and currently that organization's No. 1 130-pound contender, also is looking forward to bigger and better bouts after a victory next month.

"After I beat Corrales, either Mayweather (Floyd, World Boxing Council lightweight champion) or Freitas (Acelino, WBA super featherweight champion), hopefully, will stop ducking me and give me a shot," said Casamayor, who has a record of 29-1 with 18 knockouts.

"These guys may be avoiding me, but I'm not ducking anybody,"said Casamayor. "Look who I'm fighting; Corrales is tough. Nobody wanted to fight him, but when I was asked if I would fight him, I said, ‘Sure, bring him on.' "

Said Kushner, "I'm looking forward to victories by both fighters.

"A win will put McCline where he belongs, at or near the top of the heavyweight division," said Kushner.

"A win by Casamayor and he's well on his way to getting the world title shot he so justly deserves," continued Kushner. "Joel's ready and most capable of beating any lightweight and regaining the championship."

The 6-foot-6-inch McCline, who's ranked by all four major sanctioning bodies, including No. 6 by the World Boxing Organization, is coming off a third-round knockout of Charles Shufford May 9 in Atlantic City, N.J.

Casamayor, who was the WBA super featherweight champion from 1999 until last year, is coming off an impressive and one-sided unanimous decision over previously undefeated Nate Campbell Jan. 25 in Temecula, Calif.

Boswell has a record of 21-0 with 16 knockouts while Corrales, who fought for the WBC super featherweight championship during 2001, has a mark of 37-1 with 31 knockouts.
