Mihaly Kotai Talks And Trains Boxing

05.09 - With serious training having started for his first fight as WBF ‘world’ champion, Hungarian boxing star Mihaly Kotai was invited by television company RTL Klub as an expert analyst for this weekend’s WBO Intercontinental title fight between Zsolt Erdei and Juan Nelongo. The unbeaten superwelterweight, pictured working for RTL Klub at a previous live broadcast, received good reviews in his inaugral try at talking boxing and was unsurprisingly invited back on the boxing broadcast team for Hungary’s biggest private television company.

RTL Klub, of course, have an exclusive contract to televise Kotai’s own fights and will again do so when the Budapest banger steps back between the ropes in September. His German trainer Theo Kerekesch, who took a long and deserved vacation in Canada after his 24-0 protégé grabbed hold of the WBF crown in June, arrived in the Hungarian capital yesterday to supervise preparations. The three-month break after outpointing Russia’s Akhmed Oligov for the vacant title over 12 hard rounds was well-deserved, but also necessary because Kotai had to deal with cuts in his last three outings.

While promoter Krzysztof Zbarski, whose company Polish Boxing Promotion has promoted Kotai from the start of his career, was busy finalizing the opponent for what will be a warm-up contest, manager Olaf Schroeder confirmed that if all goes well Kotai will return to England in October to defend the WBF championship for the first time in the same country he won it in.
