IBU World Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs Stripped of Title

11.09 - Don "Moose" Lewis, President of the International Boxing Union, known as "the IBU", reluctantly announces that effective immediately IBU World Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs by decree of the IBU Executive Committee, has been relieved of the title due to the failure of his respective management team to adhere to IBU bylaws and rules.

American Top Team, the Promoter of Briggs refused to agree to correct the violations by the mandatory date set including setting the title defense of the IBU World Heavyweight title against a quality and credible opponent.

Stated Mr. Lewis, "What a disappointment to have to declare the title vacant. Mr. Briggs is in great shape and has such potential to rule the heavyweight division but we just could not get his team to agree to fight quality opponents. We suggested fighters like Oliver McCall, Cedric Boswell, Jameel McCline, Ray Mercer, Michaell Moorer-and we were quickly rebuffed to even begin to work out a potential fight. Never have I ever been personally so disappointed."

The IBU will move quickly to match at the earliest possible moment the two best available rated boxers in order to crown the new champion.

The IBU wishes Mr. Briggs the best in the future in his endeavors.
