Hide gunning for revenge against Chingangu - David Walker challenges John "Boy" Humphrey

14.05 - Hennessy Sports are pleased to announce that their next show will take place on Tuesday May 27th at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham.

In addition to two Southern Area clashes the promotion, to be shown later the same night on the BBC, will feature a ten round return between former two times WBO heavyweight champion Herbie Hide and Joseph Chingangu, the Zambian who stopped him in two rounds in 2001 after hitting him following the referee’s call for a break.

“This is the fight Herbie has been waiting for,” said promoter Mick Hennessy. “He was devastated at the manner in which he lost to Chingangu so just wants to set the record straight.

“He is going to do just that. Since that controversial loss he has relocated to America with just his close family, really got his head down and got himself a fantastic new training team that includes Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Mike McCallum and Steve ‘Crocodile’ Fitch.

He added: “With their support Herbie can return to exactly where he belongs – at the highest level. On the way he will be looking to take out a few domestic names.

“Audley Harrison and British champion Danny Williams will be the next targets, the only problem is that he may frighten them off with a spectacular performance against Chingangu.”

You can always expect fireworks when Hide is around. The Norwich man has stopped 32 of his 33 opponents, most recently breaking down the tough Derek McCafferty for a seventh round stoppage after shaking off some ring rust.

Another fight on May 27th promises to be explosive. Following his decision to move up a division, David ‘Kid Dynamite’ Walker will challenge Newmarket’s John ‘Boy’ Humphrey in a mouth-watering encounter.

“This really has the potential to be the fight of the year,” added Hennessy. “Both are talented boxers with punching power in both hands and the ability the excite.

“The clash is easily good enough to be for a British Title and is the kind of domestic showdown lacking from the sport.

“Many people will actually see David as the underdog, but they are in for a shock. If he sticks to the game plan and shows his class David will pull off a massive upset and firmly re-establish his credentials.

“David has the personality and potential, as he demonstrated in his amateur career, to become a major star of British Boxing now that he has put his defeat to Jimmy Vincent behind him.

“Since that loss, when he struggled to make 10 stone 7lbs, he deserves a lot of credit for really getting his head down.

“The move up a division has really suited him. He has started to enjoy the sport more and is concentrating on his boxing, rather than worrying continually about his weight.

“In the gym he is looking fantastic and last time out he really impressed. ‘Kid Dynamite’ is back and he will be living up to his name on May 27th.”

The show also features Francis Barrett in a defence of his Southern Area light welterweight title, Carl Froch, intriguing encounters between Gilbert Eastman & Spencer Fearon and Billy Corcoran & Jimmy Beech and the ‘Real Class of 2002’.
