Hide replies to Williams: 'Lets get it on."

07.08 - The British heavyweight division has been on the brink of sparking to life for some months now, thanks largely to the rejuvenation of Herbie Hide.

Since his return to the ring earlier this year the former two times WBO heavyweight champion has sought the showdowns the public are desperate to see him in, only for his domestic rivals to turn away from the challenge.

That was until last week when British and Commonwealth king Danny Williams issued an open letter that, in addition to making false claims about sparring sessions that took place in 1999, finally called for Hide to meet him in the ring. It is an offer that has been gladly accepted.

"All I can say is LETS GET IT ON," said 31-year-old Hide from his training base in Las Vegas.

"Up to now Danny has avoided me like the plague when I have asked him to come meet me, so it is a bit rich him posturing like he is the one making this fight happen by calling me out - but I don't care about that.

"I am just pleased it is going to take place. I don't know why he has changed his mind - he used to get a nosebleed when you mentioned my name around him - but that doesn't matter. I just hope he goes through with this.

"It was music to my ears when my promoter Mick Hennessy asked me if I would be ready to fight Danny in December. I said of course. This is the most exciting news I have had in years.

"I have almost got over the ankle injury that saw me pull out of the fight with Michael Holden last month, so that has now been rescheduled for October 4th.

"I do need that as a final tune up, but after that its all systems go. Hopefully it's going to happen before the end of the year. It won't be down to my promoter or me if it doesn't; we are both very big on this fight.

"Then Danny can try and prove the empty boasts he has been making about our sparring sessions, all these crazy stories that a few years back he put me down.

"He knows that isn't true. Just go ask Jimmy Tibbs, who trained Danny at the time, which of us was being picked up off the floor.

"His current trainer Jimmy McDonnell has also seen us spar of plenty of times. If he was being honest, he would admit that he has seen me punch holes in Danny, I dominated him.

"Simply put, Danny has been coming out with a lot of rubbish. Well the time for talking is over. Now he was to walk it as well as talk it.

"He has said he is going to knock me out. I ask myself if he has really thought about this.

"Danny should know that if he is going to come for me, he has to be prepared to get knocked out himself.

"It sounds to me as if he is relying on a punchers chance against someone he knows is a better boxer than him. Well his problem is he is not only fighting one hell of a boxer, but one who can punch harder than him as well.

"Only one of my victims has ever taken me the distance.

"I have more skills than him, I am faster than him. Anytime he comes in close to me, I am going to take him out.

"Me and my team have already worked out everything about him. Our preparations would not be any better for a world title fight.

"My trainers Eddie Mustafa Muhammad and Mike McCallum are already sitting down, watching tapes of him 24/7. Not because we are worried about him in anyway, but because I want to beat him in the most comprehensive manner possible.

"I dislike him that much. I have been reading his statements - they are going to backfire on him, they have got me really riled up. In a grudge match the person who dislikes the other the most usually wins, on that score alone I am going to beat him good.

"I am going to teach him to have some respect for me. He needs to stop insulting me and especially using that word chinny.

"He had better stay away from that word; he needs to look back at his last two fights. He was put down three times by Samil Sam in February and then in his last fight he was rocked by a guy I never even heard of. He is going to find out who is chinny when we fight."

All other differences aside, there is one subject that Hide actually does agree with Williams on - Audley Harrison.

"Danny is right for once when he says that Audley Harrison won't fight me anytime soon," continued the 'Dancing Destroyer,' who has sensationally stopped 33 of his 34 victims.

"Audley knows he is way below my level and has said himself that he needs more time. I just wonder how much more time, he will be a granddad soon.

"What puzzles me is why, even though he admits he is not ready to fight me yet, he keeps bringing heat into our situation. He keeps running me down.

"Danny is entitled to have a go, even if I don't agree with him, as he is prepared to step up to the plate now, as I am with any heavyweight out there.

"Audley, though, needs to check his words unless he is prepared to back them up. Particularly as some of the stuff he comes out with is beyond belief.

"He has claimed I am jealous of him. Me jealous of him! It's too ridiculous for words.

"What am I jealous of?

"His titles? I am former two-times WBO heavyweight champion and a former British champion - a title he said he would win in five fights. I have been there and done it several times, he hasn't done it once.

"His money? Is he deluded?

"His profile? Wherever I go I make headlines, even as Olympic champion he cannot compete with me on that score. He is more out of the picture now I am fighting Danny.

"So Audley I say this: go and do what you got to do. When you are ready to trade blows with me physically you can come back and trade them with me verbally, but ONLY then."
