Lewis-Johnson Press Conference Quotes

25.04 - World Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis returns to the ring Saturday June 21, at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles to defend his crown against Kirk Johnson. It has been nearly one year since Lewis solidified his standing as boxing's premier heavyweight by knocking out Mike Tyson in the eighth round of their showdown in Memphis. Now in his first defense since putting the stamp on his legacy, Lewis takes on an intriguing challenge from Johnson, the Nova Scotia native, who recently knocked out Lou Savarese and now has designs on springing an upset. The event, presented by Lion Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions in association with Prize Fight Promotions and STAPLES Center, will be distributed and telecast live by HBO Pay-Per-View.

LENNOX LEWIS (40-2-1, 31 KOs)

"I am happy to be in Los Angeles. I am happy the fight will be here at STAPLES Center. Most people are used to going to fights in Las Vegas. Now, they do not have to travel that far. Plus, they might not see Lennox Lewis in Los Angeles again."

"Kirk Johnson is an explosive fighter. He punches from different angles. He will definitely test my talent."

"After (fighting) Mike Tyson, there was no one out there to fight, so I took a little rest. I realized that other heavyweights would say that they are the best fighter, but Lennox Lewis is the best. I am a five-dimensional fighter. I am like fine wine. Do not look at the age."

"I am excited and looking forward to this fight. It is going to be a great night. Do not miss it."

KIRK JOHNSON (34-1-1, 25 KOs)

"After what I went through last year, I still believe that I am the best fighter on the planet.

"Lewis is the king, and I give him respect. I met Lewis on the George Foreman-Tommy Morrison card. He treated me with respect, and I respect him."

"June 21 will be a tremendous night for me. Everyone needs to come to the fight to see. You will see a great fight because we are from the same school, skill-wise. I am the best fighter on the planet. Listen, nobody has beaten me physically in the ring."
