16.12 - Santa Claus came early for Hungary’s unbeaten superwelterweight star Mihaly Kotai when German manager Olaf Schroeder of Fight Production informed his protégé of his inclusion in the World Boxing Council’s Top 10 boxers, a ranking the Budapest man was promoted to at the recent WBC Convention in Tokyo, Japan. The by far most prestigous and established sanctioning organization, whose International belt is held by Kotai, now lists him at No. 10 in their December 154 lbs rating.

Furthermore, Kotai is now up one position to No. 4 in the latest European Boxing Union (EBU) ratings and consequently a shot at the EBU title might be on the agenda for the new year.

“We are very happy with the progress Mihaly is making,” stated Kotai’s Polish promoter Krzysztof Zbarski, “and we plan to open his 2003 account by defending his WBC International title in February or March at latest.”

Kotai last fought on November 16 on the Morales v Ayala undercard in Las Vegas, unanimously outscoring Texan Ruben Perez over eight rounds to raise his unblemished record to 20-0 with 11 knockouts.
