Austrian Champ Hinteregger Signs With Fight Production

01.04 - German management company Fight Production, who are involved with boxers from many European countries, now added an International Austrian champion to their rooster with the signing of colourful superwelterweight-cum-middleweight Gotthard Hinteregger.

“We have agreed on a one-year contract with enough flexibility for both parties,” explains Olaf Schröder of Fight Production, “because we are both realistic about Gotthard’s future prospects in boxing.”

Vienna native Hinteregger, who’s mother hails from Trinidad, is already 35 years old and has been a professional since 1997, amassing an impressive record of 21-6-1 (11 KO’s). In his last outing in February, he outscored local favourite Radek Hrabak at the Hilton Hotel in the Czech capital of Prague. At the end of 2002, he split on amicable terms with longtime manager Peter Pospichal of Box-Tema Vienna, Austria’s biggest promoter, who expertly guided Hinteregger from the start of his career. The level of his victims thus far never reached European class, though, and Hinteregger’s defeats came when trying to step up the competition.

“I have the greatest respect for Peter Pospichal and we are buddies for a long, long time,” Schröder says, “Nobody could have done better for Gotthard than Peter and I told both of them so. However, it is a challenge for me to see what Fight Production can do for Gotthard. We are under no illusions and both know his age and shortcomings, but, hey, let’s see what the future holds.”

Hinteregger himself, who is the reining International Austrian champion at middleweight, a title he won almost exactly a year ago, has no bad words either for his former manager, but “I was just looking for something else, a new touch that hopefully can refresh my career.”
