Zsolt Erdei headlines internet broadcasted event in Hungary
06.09 - Szeged Saturday evening (September 6) Universum Box-Promotion will stage an event in Hungary for the fifth time. Headlining will be local crowd pleaser and undefeated light heavyweight Zsolt Erdei, 16-0 (12), in a defense of his WBO intercontinental title against Spaniard Juan Nelongo Perez, 15-4-1 (5). Site is the sport arena of Szeged, a town with 100.000 citizens, 150 kilometers away from Hungarys capital Budapest.
Its a great feeling to fight in my hometown the sympathetic and intelligent 29-year-old Erdei said. Its hard to describe, you just have to sense it. My countrymen love me, they cheer for me and during the walk in they all sing my song. That means great motivation and pressure for me at the same time.
Since 1999 Universum promotes a boxing event in Hungary every year. In the first three years the now retired featherweight champion Istvan Kovacs was headlining. Now his successor Erdei is drawing all the attention.
The main event between those two fast handed stylists promises a highly attractive and entertaining fight. In addition Zsolt Erdei and his opponent Juan Nelongo Perez are no foreigners as the Spaniard traveled to Hamburgs Universum gym many times as sparring partner and prepared among others world champion Dariusz Michalczewski for his title defenses.
I like Perez personally. He is a real nice guy. But inside the ring there are no friendships, Erdei tells about his sonny boy like opponent who during the public workout in Szeged displayed as boxing skills as well as joy of life to the 500 spectators.
Perez is a daredevil. He is coming forward all the time and throws lots of punches. And he is quick. My strategy is to be always a little bit faster than him.
Zsolt is a nice human being and a skillful boxer, Perez returns the compliments of his opponent. I will keep the distance and avoid his right hand. And I will try to throw as many punches as possible.
I will try my best to make it a great fight, the 33-year-old Tenerife based bachelor said who prepared two months for this fight on his home island.
The 3500 seat sport arena in Szeged is expected to be a sell out on Saturday. Ticket prices range from 3500 to 12000 Furint (14 to 48 Euro). Low prices compared to standards in Europe or the US. But its still quite some money for an Hungarian who earns only an average of 500 Euro gross a month.
TV channel RTL KLUB will broadcast live in Hungary. They expect about two million viewers which is about 20% of the countrys population and a TV marketing share of up to 90%.
The whole event will be broadcasted live on Boxing.de via webcam
