Ex-Amateur Foes Call Out Viloria!

By Dennis Principe

24.06 - Brothers Glenn and Nonito "Flash" Donaire, Jr. of the Philippines believe that newly-crowned WBC Youth champion Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria is being hyped-up by allowing him to feast on nondescript, characterless fighters.

In an exclusive interview, the Donaire brothers made known their intention to fight Viloria "anytime at any place" to prove their point. Glenn, nicknamed "Filipino Puncher" wanted to avenge his controversial 10-5 decision loss to Viloria during the February 2000 US Olympic Trials.

"For us, money is not an issue. We wanted to prove that we are more superior than Viloria who is being hyped by his promoters. Brian must prove that he is as good as advertised by fighting Olympians like us." exclaimed by the Donaires.

However, the Donaire brothers clarified that their decision to turn professional is not exclusively to pursue Viloria. The two would like to complement the success of IBF Jr. bantamweight champion Manny Pacquiao who, like them was born in General Santos City, Philippines.

They averred that they are targeting other worthy fighters to improve their chances of fighting for the world title.

"Though we believe we can be world champions in the near future, we are not in a hurry. We are more concerned in improving our crafts by fighting creditable fighters. Through that we can prove that we are for real!" they added.

Glenn further explained that he did not backdown in fighting undefeated boxer Gabriel Elizondo because he believes that to be the best, he must fight the best boxer available. Though he was able to knock his opponent down twice, Glenn still lost a controversial decision to Elizondo.

Just this week, Glenn, 21 (7-1, 5 KO's) showcased his ring savvy by toying around with Alvin Yacob (5-2-1, 2 KO's) and won via 6-round unanimous decision at the Joe Cantada Boxing Arena in Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Meanwhile, Nonito, Jr., 19 (4-1, 3 KO's) is preparing for a fight next month and is hoping to face a tough challenger.
