Yuri Foreman On Fast Track To Success Under Tutelage Of Trainer Tommy Brooks

Undefeated Junior Middleweight Fights at Foxwoods on April 26 on Jirov-Toney Championship Card

18.04 - Unbeaten Jewish star Yuri Foreman (9-0, 5 KOs) is on a fast-track to success. Promoted and advised by DiBella Entertainment, and managed by Gary Gittlesohn, the 22-year-old Israeli fighter is under the tutelage of highly-respected trainer Tommy Brooks, and showing marked improvement each time he steps into the ring.

Training in Big Bear, CA, where Brooks also trains cruiserweight kingpin Vassiliy Jirov, Foreman has scored a pair of big first round KOs in his last two fights, as he gets set for his next ring appearance on Saturday night, April 26, at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT., in one of the attractions under the Jirov-James Toney championship tilt.

The Jirov (31-0, 27 KO's) vs. Toney (65-4-2, 42 KO's) championship, along with the co-featured Antonio Tarver (20-1, 17 KO's) vs. Montell Griffin (44-3, 29 KO's) will be televised by HBO's Boxing After Dark beginning at 9:30 PM.

"Tommy has really taught me a lot of new stuff," says the junior middleweight. "He's doing a great job Americanizing my style. Before, my style was more amateur, too straight. He has taught me to move my head, throw more combinations, and better conditioning.

"It's been great," he adds, "just look at the results. I am getting better and more confident."

After missing four and a half months to allow a facial cut to heal properly, Foreman has reeled off three straight with Brooks in his corner this year, a six-round unanimous decision over a tough-minded Andre Trunov at Foxwoods on January 10, before the opening stanza KOs over William Evans in Temecula, CA. on January 25 and James Johnson in Philadelphia last month on March 29.

Born in Belarus and raised in Haifa, Israel, Foreman migrated to New York City, and fought out of Gleason's Gym before moving his training camp to Big Bear to be with Brooks. He runs daily with Jirov.

"I love running in the mountains," said Foreman. "But we had 10-inches of snow on Monday, it was like Christmas in April."

Virtually all of his fights have been on the east coast, including many in New York City, and he looks forward to returning. "Lots of my friends are coming to see the fight at Foxwoods," says the former New York Golden Gloves champion. "I'm landing at JFK on Sunday, and have to work on the tickets."

Foreman will be joined by fellow New York Golden Gloves champions Aneudi Santos (7-0, 5 KOs) , the Hofstra University light heavyweight, and Sechew Powell (7-0, 5 KOs), the Brooklyn junior middleweight, on the card.
