Ex-World Champ, Olympic Gold Medalist Howard Davis To Train ATTP Fighters

22.03 - Former world champion and Olympic gold medalist Howard Davis Jr. has been selected as head trainer for American Top Team Productions boxers it was announced today by heavyweight contender Shannon Briggs and Herman Caicedo, the guiding forces behind ATTP's professional boxing program.

"Shannon and I have that New York connection, so I'm really looking forward to working with him," Davis said.

"Shannon's a fighter who hasn't reached his full potential. The best is yet to come.

"ATTP has some dazzling prospects," Davis added. "Some are diamonds in the rough, but some will be ready to sparkle soon."

The 47-year-old Davis held the World Boxing Council lightweight championship during 1980 through 1984. He won the title less than four years after winning a gold medal for the United States at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He also captured the Val Baker award for being the outstanding boxer at those Games, getting the nod over all other gold medalists, including "Sugar" Ray Leonard.

Davis retired for good in 1996 with a record of 36-6-1 with 14 KOs. Davis, a superb boxer, retired for the first time in 1988, but returned to the ring in 1994 and won four of his final five fights.
Davis, who was born, raised and lived in the New York City area, is relocating to South Florida to assume control of training for the ATTP stable.

ATTP holds its next card March 27 in the Fort Lauderdale (FL) War Memorial Auditorium. The seven-bout "March Badness" card features Briggs, the former heavyweight lineal world champion, from South Florida against Marvin Hill from Fort Smith, AK, in the main event and light heavyweight Julian Letterlough from Reading, PA, against Stacy Goodson from Paris, AR, in the semi-main event. Also on the card is International Female Boxing Association minimumweight champion Vaia Zaganas from Las Vegas, NV, against Terri Moss from Atlanta, GA.

The exciting ATTP card starts at 7 p.m. (ET) with gates opening at 6.

Any person who is a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, active or reserve, or is employed by a department or agency in the public sector of domestic (city, county, state, federal) law enforcement will be admitted free of charge. Verifying identification will be needed.

Boxing is just one part of ATTP. It also promotes mixed martial arts and extreme motor sports. In order to enable its world-class athletes to reach their goals and achieve optimum success, ATTP is building a 20,000-square foot, state-of-the-art training center in Fort Lauderdale.
