Jefferson, Poet Fields, Shufford, Defiagbon TOP CKP Card This Saturday

18.09 - Hard-hitting heavyweight Derrick Jefferson of Detroit takes on Sedreck Fields, the punching poet from Augusta, Ga., in the10-round main event on the Cedric Kushner Promotions card Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Stratosphere Hotel Casino & Tower in Las Vegas, Nev. Fields replaces Fernely Feliz, who reportedly broke his left wrist while sparring late last week. Six Las Vegans are on the card-heavyweights Charles Shufford, Marcellus Brown, undefeated David Defiagbon and unbeaten Herman Gipson; super middleweight Larry Banks; and woman bantamweight Dawn Reynolds.

Shufford and Brown meet in a six-round bout; Defiagbon faces Earl Ramon Hayes of Augusta, Ga.; in another six-round fight; Banks goes against John McKinney of Spring Lake, N.C., in an eight-round bout; Gipson takes on Darrel Harry of Baltimore in a four-round fight; and Reynolds clashes with Elizabeth Cervantes of San Diego in a four-round bout.

The six-bout card, presented by Cedric Kushner Promotions, starts at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) with gates to the outdoor arena on the north side of the Stratosphere opening at 6:30. Tickets, priced at $24 for plaza, $36 for premium and $58 for ringside, are on sale daily from 10 a.m. to midnight at the Stratosphere ticket office, located on the second floor off the casino, and by calling 702-380-7711 during those days and hours. The 34-year-old Jefferson has a record of 25-3-1 with 20 knockouts and is coming off a 10-round decision win over Phil Jackson on the Cedric Kushner Promotions "Heavyweight Explosion" card Feb. 16 in Las Vegas.

The 30-year-old Fields, who recently had a collection of his poetry published, has a record of 18-15-1 with 12 knockouts and is coming off a win over former International Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion Al Cole on a Cedric Kushner Promotions card Aug. 31, in Bridgehampton, N.Y.

Fields also has a win over Shannon Briggs and has been in with former World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Oliver McCall and current world-ranked heavyweight contender Jameel McCline.

The 29-year-old Shufford has a record of 17-2 with nine knockouts and is fighting for the first time since August of 2001, when he faced Wladimir Klitschko on an HBO-televised card in Las Vegas.
The 6-foot-11 3/4-inch Brown, who just moved to Las Vegas from Atlanta, has a record of 24-13-1 with 21 knockouts. The 34-year-old Brown has fought former WBC heavyweight champion Trevor Berbick.

The 32-year-old Defiagbon, originally from Nigeria, has a record of 17-0 with 11 knockouts.

The 31-year-old Hayes has a record of 7-14-1 with six knockouts, but one of those KO wins is over Attila Levin and is the only loss the highly regarded Swedish Olympian, who's trained by Angelo Dundee, has suffered in 26 bouts.

The 33-year-old Banks, who has a record of 6-11 with one knockout. The 28-year-old McKinney has a mark of 8-1 with five knockouts. Gipson has a record of 1-0 with one knockout. Harry is making his pro debut. Reynolds has a record of 3-1 with no knockouts while Cervantes has a mark of 0-2.
