Sykes-Williams in main event on CKP Fox card Oct 20

11.10 - Taurus Sykes of Bronx, N.Y., faces Sherman Williams of Miami Beach, Fla., in the main event on Cedric Kushner Promotions' monthly "Everlast Heavyweight Explosion" card televised live nationally by Fox Sports Net Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash.

Also on the six-bout card is an eight-round heavyweight semi-main event featuring Anthony Thompson of Silver Spring, Md., against Zuri Lawrence of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., and teenage heavyweight Chauncy Welliver of Spokane, Wash.

The four fighters in the main and semi-main events have won 31 of their past 33 fights. The card starts at 2:15 p.m. (Pacific) with doors to the Emerald Queen Showroom opening at 1. The live telecast on Fox Sports Net starts at 3.

Tickets, priced at $20 for general admission, $50 for reserved and $100 for ringside are on sale at from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at the Emerald Queen Casino gift shop. Also on this Cedric Kushner Promotions are against Welliver against King Ipitan of Bellflower, Calif., in a six-round heavyweight fight and undefeated Heman Ali Gipson of Las Vegas, Nev., against John Clark of Bellflower, Calif., in a four-round heavyweight bout.

The 27-year-old Sykes has a record of 19-1 with five knockout. His past six wins have been on Cedric Kushner Promotions' "Everlast Heavyweight Explosion" cards in Nevada and California.

The 30-year-old Williams, originally from The Bahamas, has a record of 20-6-1 with 12 knockouts. He's coming off a win over Sampson Po'uha on a Cedric Kushner Promotions' "Everlast Heavyweight Explosion" card April 21 in Laughlin, Nev., and over former IBF cruiserweight champion Al Cole on the Cedric Kushner Promotions card featuring Shane Mosley and Vernon Forrest for the WBC welterweight championship Jan. 26 in Madison Square Garden in New York City. Williams also has a draw with Jameel McCline, who's ranked by the WBC, WBA and IBF, during 2000.

The 30-year-old Thompson has a record of 16-1 with eight knockouts and has won 12 straight.

The 32-year-old Lawrence is a superb boxer with a record of 18-7-3 with no knockouts. He has six straight wins and victories in 11 of his past 13 bouts, the most recent Aug. 17 in Atlantic City when he upset previously undefeated and once highly touted Paolo Vidoz. The bout before that was a win over veteran David Vedder on a Cedric Kushner Promotions' "Everlast Heavyweight Explosion" card May 25 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Vidoz won the bronze medal for Italy at the 2000 Sydney Olympics while Vedder has fought for the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation light heavyweight championships plus the WBC cruiserweight title.
