Sucra' Ray Oliveira, Ortiz headline sweet night of boxing action at Foxwoods on May 2

16.04 - MASHANTUCKET, CONN. -- "Sucra" Ray Oliviera and Elio "El Chingo" Ortiz will settle the question of "Who is the lord of the ring?" when they meet for the IBU welterweight title at Foxwoods Resort Casino May 2.

In the co-feature, Massachusetts native Rich "The Mountain" LaMontagne (27-4-1, 22 KOs) meets Ernest "M-16" Mateen of Queens, N.Y., (27-9-3, 9 KOs) in a 10-round cruiserweight match.

The card at Foxwoods is being promoted with Jimmy Burchfield's Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) of North Providence, R.I.

Tickets are $65, $50 and $35 and are available at the Foxwoods box office or by calling it at 800-200-2882. Tickets are also available by calling CES at 401-724-2253.

Oliveira, of New Bedford, Mass., brings a record of 44-8-2, 21 KOs to the ring as he faces the challenge of Venezuelan Ortiz (23-5, 18 KOs). Oliveira will have his hands full against the strong, young South American - who has stopped 13 of his foes within three rounds.

Ortiz went the distance in a loss to Sharmba Mitchell in 1999 for the WBA light welterweight championship.

In the co-feature, the hard-punching LaMontagne made his pro debut in 1993 with a first-round knockout. He has gone to in his career to dispatch a dozen opponents in the first round.

The 6'2'' man-mountain will have to avoid the lightning quick hands of Mateen - who has been in the ring with such boxing stalwarts as James "Lights Out" Toney, Uriah Grant and Antonio Tarver.

The undercard will feature four other exciting matches with fighters expected who are well-known in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. They are expected to include junior middleweight "Bad" Chad Dawson (11-0, 4KOs) of New Haven, super featherweight Angel "Gee Roc" Torres (11-2, 4 KOs) of Manchester, Conn., Providence heavyweight Jevon "J Roc" Langford (5-0, 5 KOs), and junior welterweight "Steamin" Josh Beeman (1-0).

The night of championship boxing action also will be shown live on ESPN2.
