USA TODAY RELEASES IT'S TOP 10 RANKINGS
Heavyweights (190 and up)
1. Lennox Lewis (41-2-1). Champ's possible first step toward retirement was announcing he won't fight Vitali Klitschko again this year, or anyone for that matter. Next: TBA.
2. Chris Byrd (36-2). Upcoming defense isn't very attractive, the reason he's taking more than $1 million less than his minimum from promoter Don King. Next: Sept. 20 vs. Fres Oquendo.
3. Hasim Rahman (35-4-1). Has a new home in Las Vegas, a new trainer in Roger Mayweather and new dedication. What he doesn't have is a scheduled fight. Next: TBA.
4. David Tua (42-3-1). There are rumblings about a rematch vs. John Ruiz, who Tua knocked out in 19 seconds. Next: TBA.
5. Vitali Klitschko (32-2). Wants and deserves a Lewis rematch but won't get one, at least not this year. Instead he'll settle for an HBO main event. Next: Dec. 6 vs. TBA.
6. Roy Jones Jr. (48-1). Deciding between Corrie Sanders and light heavyweight Antonio Tarver. One thing to remember: The big, big money is at heavyweight. Next: Nov. 8 vs. TBA.
7. Evander Holyfield (38-6-2). Even if he beats James Toney, what does it prove? That he can beat a cruiserweight? Next: Oct. 4 vs. Toney.
8. Corrie Sanders (39-2). South African puncher has signed to face Jones. But with no commitment from Jones, Sanders might face mandatory Lamon Brewster. Next: TBA.
9. Wladimir Klitschko (40-2). Comeback starts with a safe fight. Of course they thought the same about Sanders, who drilled him. Next: Aug. 30 vs. Fabio Moli.
10. Fres Oquendo (24-1). Reason he gets a shot at Byrd's title is because he fits in the budget. Next: Sept. 20 vs. Byrd.
Others: John Ruiz, Jameel McCline, Kirk Johnson, Mike Tyson.
