Ashira Too Hot To Handle For Elliott!

07.09 - In nine one-sided rounds in the Erfurter Messehalle in Erfurt, Germany, WBA / IBF # 6 middleweight contender Evans “The African Warrior” Ashira underlined his world-class status, as he destroyed WBC # 19 Jerry Elliott, and registered a victory by technical knockout.

The fight was billed: “Who’s The King Of Africa?” We all know that now: Evans Ashira is!

Ashira never let Elliott (37-3-1, 27 KOs) into the fight, and hammered him continuously with wicked body shots that really took their toll on the Wilfried Sauerland promoted Nigerian. In round nine, Ashira floored Elliott twice, and the referee called the onslaught off after the second knockdown. The victory was never in real danger for Ashira, who retained his WBA International title for the second time, and improved his unbeaten record to 23-0 (13).

Ashira will now be looking for a conversation with promoter Don King about the future, which definitely looks interesting. William Joppy and Bernard Hopkins has been the main targets for a long time for the Mombassa born middleweight, and this impressive victory will surely have brought him closer to a fight against the winner of Hopkins - Joppy later in the year.

“I said before this fight, that I was going to put a real beating on Elliott, and that is exactly what I did. I am one of the very best middleweights in the world, and the so-called big guys cannot keep running from me! I respect Jerry (Elliott) a lot for taking this fight with me, and I hope he is okay, and that he returns better and stronger because of the defeat” said Ashira in the hours after the fight.

Sauerland Events promoted the fight, in cooperation with Don King Productions. A capacity crowd of 8000 watched the bout, which was the co-feature to Sven Ottke vs. Mads Larsen.
