Peter Manfredo Jr: Stepping Up

“I don’t care who this kid is coming in here…seventeen
and three with eleven knockouts. We’re gonna see how
much heart and determination he has when I’M in there
with him. I got the will, I got the heart, I got the
balls, and I got the determination to win. That’s what
it takes.”

23.06 - By Ron DiMichele: Despite an undefeated record and wins over the likes of Frankie ‘The Surgeon” Randall, South Boston’s Tommy Attardo, and Brockton, MA rising star Ian Gardner, fans of 24-year old Pawtucket, RI junior middleweight Peter Manfredo Jr continue to ask: “When is he going to fight a REAL opponent? When is he going to take that next step towards his title dreams?” It appears that time has come. Manfredo Jr (17-0, 8 KO’s) squares off this Friday night, June 27th, at The Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, RI against Victor Rosado of the Bronx, NY, and reports are this guy is no creampuff. Rosado is a live body and many predict fireworks when the two up-and-comers clash in the evening’s main event.

“Victor Rosado’s been training at Gleason’s gym,” says Manfredo Jr’s father and head trainer, Peter Manfredo Sr, “And he’s going to be prepared. He’s looking to come in and take what my son has worked for these last 12 years he’s been boxing. But we’ve got something in store for him. He’s gonna get hit with some dynamite that night.”

Don’t expect Victor Rosado (17-3-1, 11 KOs) to shrink from the challenge. The 26-yr old two-time New York Golden Gloves champion with six first round knockouts has been building a reputation as a rough, tough customer. In Rosado’s last bout, an eighth round technical decision loss to Johnny Molnar, he was warned for low blows and had a point deducted for holding and hitting before the fight was stopped due to cuts Molnar suffered from unintentional headbutts.

“All I know is he’s a tough kid and he’s coming to fight,” says Peter Manfredo Jr.

Manfredo Jr, who has sparred extensively with former junior middleweight champion, Fernando Vargas, has currently been working out with stablemate, Ray Oliveira, as well as light heavyweight Iceman John Scully.

“I’ve been working extremely hard,” says Manfredo Jr, currently ranked 30th in the world by the WBC. “If it comes down to the wire, it’s going to be who has the most heart, who’s gonna throw the more punches. And I know that’s going to be me.”

‘Team Manfredo’ has recently become even more of a family affair. In addition to his father as trainer, Peter Manfredo Jr is now promoted by Knockout Productions, founded and operated by mother, Nicole. With live music and an excellent undercard featuring lightweight Aaron ‘Two-Guns’ Torres (13-1, 6 KOs) and the return to the ring of Cranston, RI cruiserweight Arthur Saribekian (22-4, 17 KOs), she’s promising fans a unique and exciting experience at the ‘Pride of Providence’ show. But the main spotlight will shine on her son.

“I’m ready to go,” says Manfredo Jr. “When he comes in here next Friday night...he’s gonna get SMASHED!”
