Vargas Press Conference: "That's boxing and one punch can turn around the whole fight."

Transcript by Fred De La Riva

20.09 - Fernando Vargas: "Thank you. First, I would like to thank God for keeping me safe inside and outside the ring and also I would like to thank my fans for sticking with me through thick and thin."

'I´m doing fine physically and mentally. I just wanted to spend sometime with my family alone and I was able to do that.

This loss was very disappointing to me and also to my team. I want to congratulate Oscar on winning the fight. It was his night and he did what he had to do to win.

The commission and the ringside doctor made me leave the ring so I did not have the chance to talk to Oscar or to answer any questions after the fight.

I wanted to go to the press conference, but they sent me to the hospital instead.

As far as the fight goes, I thought I was executing my game plan and I was taking the fight to him. I was putting a lot of pressure on him and he took a lot of hard shots. I watched the tape and I think I was winning the fight when he caught me at the end of the 10th round. That's boxing and one punch can turn around the whole fight.

I never recovered from that punch and he caught me again. at the start of the 11th. He threw a lot of punches and the ref stopped the fight. I was in the best shape of my life and I really felt great.

John Philbin was going to be dismissed after the fight, but he had the opportunity to publicly blame the loss on anyone and everyone else. Now I would like to take this opportunity to publicly call him a coward for not handling this in person with me.

I want to thank all my fans again and I will be back and I look forward to being world champion again."
