Tonight at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles, Golden Boy Promotions put on another fantastic “LA Fight Club” card, headlined by undefeated featherweight Julian Ramirez. A passionate crowd filled the venue to watch talented up and coming prospects from their local neighborhoods, and millions of fans watched nationwide on Fox Sports 1.
The crowd was hyped up for the ten-round main event between Julian Ramirez, of local Pasadena, and Raul Hidalgo, of Chihuahua, Mexico. Twenty-two year old Ramirez worked well behind his southpaw jab and showed terrific ring generalship, keeping Hidalgo at the perfect distance to land shots and remain defensively responsible. Hidalgo moved a lot, looking to avoid the youngster’s big left hand.
At the end of the seventh round Ramirez finally caught up with his opponent, dropping him just before the bell. Hidalgo rose to his feet and fought on, although his nose bled heavily and appeared to be broken. Ramirez appeared frustrated throughout the final rounds, as his opponent was in complete survival mode. After ten dominating rounds, all three judges scored it 100-90 for the still undefeated Ramirez, who improves to 14-0 (8KO). Hidalgo drops to 23-13 (17KO).
In the TV swing bout, undefeated Joet Gonzalez, of nearby Glendora, went up against Mexican Ali Gonzalez in a six-round featherweight contest. It was target practice from the onset for the local fighter, who pushed his opponent around the ring. In the second round a thunderous body shot from the American dropped the Mexican challenger and he couldn’t beat the count. Joet Gonzalez improves to 9-0 (4KO) while Ali Gonzalez falls to 6-6-1 (1KO).
The second bout of the card was a spirited six-round super middleweight scrap between Brazilian Olympic bronze medalist Yamaguchi Falcao and Deartie Tucker of Arkansas, both undefeated. Falcao, a southpaw, put serious leather on Tucker throughout. But the kid from Arkansas hung tough, fighting through a bloodied nose, and landing some return fire of his own. Things became more one-sided as the rounds progressed however, as the Brazilian coasted down the stretch. The judges scored it 58-55 and 59-54 twice for Falcao, who improves to 5-0 (2KO), while Tucker lost for the first time as a pro (2-1, 2KO).
The opening bout of the card was a six-round 140-pound match between Everton Lopes, another Brazilian, and Robert Seyam, of Kansas. Right at the bell Seyam went straight to Lopes, attempting to surprise him. But Lopes kept his cool and returned fire, scoring a vicious body blow that his opponent was unable to recover from. Lopes improves to 2-0 (1KO), while Seyam falls to 2-3 (2KO).
In an untelevised 4-rounder, welterweight Melsik Baghdasaryan of local Glendale, California won his professional debut against Mario Angeles (1-7-2), of San Diego by way of Mexico City.
