With a roaring crowd of 7,234 hometown fans behind him, Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson (15-0, 14 KOs) truly made his mark at Toledo’s Huntington Center. Anderson showcased his endurance by going the distance for the first time in his career, delivering a ten-round unanimous decision victory over the former world champion “Prince” Charles Martin (29-4-1, 26 KOs).

Anderson’s athletic prowess was evident from the onset, helping him secure several early round wins. His relentless pressure on Martin, coupled with his clever avoidance of any counterattacks, kept Anderson firmly in control. In a strategic move during the third round, Anderson switched his stance to southpaw, flooring Martin with a quick and effective counter right hook.

The 23-year-old, known for his knockout ability, aimed for a swift end. But the seasoned Martin demonstrated his experience, weathering the storm. By the fifth round, a slightly flagging Anderson left an opening, allowing Martin to land several potent left-handed strikes.

Reacting swiftly, Anderson reverted to his dependable jab and upped his body shots, overpowering Martin in the subsequent rounds. He successfully retained his WBO International and WBC USA titles, with scorecards marking 98-91 and 99-90 twice in his favor.

Basking in his triumph, Anderson said, “The support was surreal. My team, my family, and the people of Toledo rallied behind me throughout the ten rounds. I am also grateful to my opponent, who put up a commendable fight despite the short notice. I believe we offered Toledo a spectacular show.”

Anderson further remarked, “I was keen on going the distance, to know if I could withstand ten rounds against a power-puncher like Martin. His enduring strength made it even more satisfying to complete the rounds.”

Reflecting on Martin’s performance, Anderson said, “I think I held up well against his strongest hits. There was never a moment where I felt shaky or unable to defend myself. But did he land a shot that made me reassess my strategy? Absolutely, which led to some necessary adjustments.”

Despite his loss, Martin was gracious, “I took up the fight on just an 11-day notice and gave it my best. Anderson is a true champion in the making. I am proud of him.”

Martin’s respect for Anderson was palpable, “He’s an astute fighter, exhibiting craftiness in the ring. Usually, when I hurt my opponents, I can finish them off. But Anderson, he’s as agile as a middleweight, consistently evading even when cornered. He’s on his way to becoming a champion.”
