Who Next for Eubank Junior? Martin Murray says “let’s do it, if your dad will let you!”

He lost out on a massive fight with middleweight ruler Gennady Golovkin (either because he was simply too late to the contract table, or due to not seeing the contract in time, depending on which side you listen to) but the career of Chris Eubank Junior goes on. In fact, all the publicity he received over his possible fight with GGG has likely made Eubank a bigger name. But who will he fight next?

Promoter Eddie Hearn has said it is possible the reigning British champ could both appear on the under-card of the GGG-Kell Brook card in London and then, maybe fight the winner. But that prospect is some months away: who could Eubank fight next, either on the September 10 bill or on some other date? Eubank has been ordered by The BBB of C to defend his British belt against Tommy Langford, and maybe this fight will go ahead at The O2 in London (Langford fights tonight on the Rigondeaux-Dickens card in Liverpool).

But another man who has called Eubank out is former British and Commonwealth middleweight champ Martin Murray. Murray spoke with Sky Sports, explaining how fans are constantly coming up to him, asking him when he will fight Eubank. And via Twitter, Eubank shot back a typical response to Murray’s calling him out:

“It would be a great fight….unfortunately not for you,” Eubank wrote.

Murray replied with:

“OK big lad. You’ll most probably use this as another publicity stunt but if your dad will let you…let’s do it.”

Murray, 33-4-1(16) and coming off a points defeat to George Groves at super-middleweight, where Murray has campaigned since his brave challenge of Golovkin back in February of 2015, says he never thought Eubank would actually fight Golovkin; that it was a mere publicity stunt. Eubank of course says otherwise, but fans will agree how Eubank-Murray is a good match-up; as yet another addition to the already stacked September 10 card especially (Hearn really has put together a value for money show: with GGG-Brook accompanied by Lee Haskins-Stuey Hall for the IBF bantam belt, John Casimero-Charlie Edwards for the IBF flyweight title and Martin Ward-Andy Townend for the British super-feather belt – and with this in mind it is probably asking too much for Matchroom to add Murray-Eubank, or Eubank-Langford, to the card).

Murray told Sky Sports he feels he has “more advantage at middleweight.” Having mixed it with big names at 168-pounds, Murray is convinced he has the beating of Eubank – if he will take the fight.

“He won’t fight me, even though it’s a fight everyone wants to see,” Murray said. “He won’t fight me because is he does then he’ll lose.”
