WBO Strips Mayweather Jr. of Title

Aside from beating Manny Pacquiao for the WBO belt, there were a few more details that had to be respected in order for Mayweather Jr. to officially hold on to that 147-pound title.

It seems to be that the main culprit behind the decision made by the World Boxing Organization was a $200,000 sanctioning fee that was supposed to be paid in full by July 3, 2015.

On one hand, this could potentially be a misunderstanding, a clerical mistake on someone’s end. This fee is minuscule compared to the take-home pay that team Mayweather had earned for the Pacquiao bout.

This sum is nothing that Floyd would ever hesitate about. After all, this is a one night’s sporting bet for him.

On another hand, we have all heard on more than one occasion from Mayweather Jr. himself that he doesn’t fight for the belts or the titles, instead it’s the money that is the priority to him. In many interviews Mayweather Jr. stated that he doesn’t care about the belts in the least, because all they do is sit and accumulate dust.

On a more outrageousness note, maybe Mayweather Jr. has something more creative in mind.

What if he let go of the belt just to end up fighting to earn it back, possibly against the fighter that he won it from in the first place?
