The weights are in for tomorrow’s crunch rematch between heavyweights Tony Thompson and David Price. Thompson, who shocked Price via 2nd-round stoppage back in February, tipped in at 18 stone and 7lbs or 259-pounds. While Price, who is hell-bent on avenging his sole pro defeat, came in at 17 stone and 12lbs or 250-pounds.
Price looked in great shape, while “The Tiger,” as southpaw Thompson is known, while he certainly looked to be in far better shape than he was upon entering the ring for the first fight, looked to again be carrying some excess weight.
Still, body types may well be the least of it once the bell rings at The Echo Arena in Price’s hometown of Liverpool tomorrow night. Thompson looked flabby and soft at a career-high 262-pounds five months ago, yet he still won via massive upset. Price has pushed himself incredibly hard with new advisor Lennox Lewis, but will the 2008 Olympian again fall foul of one of the veteran’s tricks?
Price is a big favourite with the bookies, but only a fool would write of a repeat win by Thompson.
