Those Who Shout The Loudest! – Willie Dirrell Says Andre Taking Belt Back Home

If there has been an irksome, fly-on-s*** type presence hanging over the media workouts and pressers this week in Boston ahead of tonight’s fight between James DeGale and Andre Dirrell, look no further than the non-boxing brother of the Dirrell family – Willie – who has spoken to iFLtv in between making an ass of himself – to state unequivocally that he believes the IBF 168lb title is going back to Michigan.

Dirrell, who has made it his job to be a professional pain in the backside with regards to this fight – stalking DeGale over Instagram and calling him a loser at the open workout this week – looked even more stupid posting for pictures with his fists raised at the head to head as if it were he getting in the ring and not his brother.

I’m not sure he realised the assembled media were laughing AT him and not WITH him – good natured or not.

Yet many people in the UK hold a soft spot for their local village idiot, which is probably why James Helder chose to grab a few words with the attention seeking Dirrell, who clearly enjoys living vicariously through his far more athletic and successful siblings.

Asked by Helder what he thinks of James DeGale as a fighter, he said;

“I think James DeGale is an excellent fighter, you know – big up to him, I take my hat off to him you know. I know he been working hard and I know he focused on this fight – but come Saturday I know Andre is also focused and determined and I know what he’s capable of.”

“I’ve been through camp with him so I know what – I know what he’s able to do, you know? There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s gonna get this victory.”

Asked by Helder if he had set himself the task of trying to unsettle James DeGale with his antics, Dirrell was honest, even if he did try and play his idiocy down slightly.

Maybe a better way to phrase the question would have been ‘are you always this much of a pr***? yet Willie responded with the following;

“No, I’m just building up the anticipation to the fight, you know? I’m just making it fun. (Really!?) You know leading up to the fight – It’s all competition you know? It’s a back and forth thing – even James is going back – you know, I like it. It’s the sport, it’s the nature of the sport. It’s how it’s always been forever.”

“I’m Team Dirrell and that’s all I rep. I rep Flint and Team Direll, man. You know it – that’s all I know. And I know what we come to do. We come to Boston to win that IBF world title – Andre Dirrell will leave here victorious come Saturday May 23rd. Mark my words.”

Good job it’s not you throwing the punches in there then, ain’t it Willie – “you know?”
