by James Slater at ringside in Leeds: In a hard fought and exciting battle, bantamweights Stuart Hall and Rodrigo Guerreo, both former world champions, engaged in a thrilling bout that was a final eliminator for the IBF title currently held by Lee Haskins.
Hall won by scores of 117-111 x 3.
The two came out fast and soon got into a fight that became a gruelling affair. Hall used his height and reach at times but also traded with the Mexican. Guerreo, who switched stance throughout the fight, launched a relentless body attack. Hall also went to the body but he had more success when he boxed and used his long levers.
The visiting fighter complained about Hall’s use of the head, many times, but the fight raged on. The two slugged it out and at least three rounds were possible highlights of the year so far in the UK. Both tested each other’s chin and fans were treated to a great supporting bout. At times it looked like Hall might overwhelm Guerreo, at other times it looked like Guerreo might overwhelm Hall.
But in the end the gutsy and underrated Hall again showed his mettle in earning the right to face Lee Haskins in what could be a great rematch.
