Stieglitz defeats Kiyota by 10th round technical decision

WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz (45-3, 25 KO’s) had too much kill and too much firepower for his outclassed opponent Yuzo Kiyota (23-4-1, 21 KO’s) in defeating him by a 10th round technical decision tonight at the Energie Verbund-Arena, in Dresden, Sachsen, Germany. The fight went to the scorecards following the 10th when Kiyota was cut over his left eye from a clash of heads. The judges scored the fight 99-90, 100-89, 99-90, all for Stieglitz.

Stieglitz hurt Kiyota a number of times in the fight with big shots, but Kiyota was able to continue fighting each time despite being on shaky legs. Stieglitz hurt Kiyota badly in the 4th round from a solid right hand to the head that caused Kiyota to backup to the ropes. Stieglitz then spent the last 15 seconds of the round hitting Kiyota with a rain of head shots with almost all of them landing. When the round ended, Kiyota had to stagger back to his corner.

Kiyota lost a point for hitting on the break in the 5th and came close to losing another point when he roughly threw Stieglitz to the canvas to get him off of him when he was flurrying on him.

The fight was never competitive in the least. It was just Stieglitz hitting a fighter with a pretty good chin and impressing the German fans. It’s too bad that Kiyota was the one that was selected for this fight because the outcome was so predictable. Kiyota had never faced anyone half as good as Stieglitz before and it really showed because he didn’t have the skills to compete. It was Stieglitz pounding an over-matched fighter at will, and the only reason the fight went 10 rounds instead of 1 is because of Kiyota’s chin.

WBO/WBF female middleweight champion Christina Hammer (15-0, 7 KO’s) stayed unbeaten by defeating challenger Mikaela Lauren (19-3, 7 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision. The final judges scores were 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92. The fight wasn’t competitive to say the least.
