While often enough rumors are only that, speculation, this time around it seems s that Floyd Mayweather Jr. actually meant what he said when the champion stated that his next fight will be either against Andre Berto or Karim Mayfield.

According to the SweetScience, sources have suggested that Andre Berto will be the lucky one crossing the ropes to face Mayweather Jr. on CBS in September.

This will surely create an avalanche of disappointed and angry reactions towards Mayweather Jr. for making such an effortless choice. On one hand, this is indeed absolutely absurd from a standpoint of a boxing fan. How could he? Where is the honor? Where is the loyalty to his fans?

To all of this Mayweather Jr. could respond by pleading that if it is ok for Manny Pacquiao to fight Chris Algieri, it is most certainly acceptable for Floyd to fight Andre Berto. And that ladies and gentleman would be true.

In the coming days, or possibly hours, something more solid, more official should be announced. Once the rumors gain ground, it is a matter of time before the truth makes its way to the boxing community through its constantly flowing channels of information. Who knows, maybe this is a smokescreen, and an entirely different opponent is being typed into the contract as I type these words.
