Shawn Porter Wants To Make Broner Pay / No Catch-Weight Concerns

(Photo credit: Idris Erba/Mayweather Promotions) If there were any worries over his mental and physical state ahead of Saturday’s 144 lb catch-weight fight against Adrien Broner – then Shawn Porter isn’t allowing them to show – assuring everybody at the heated final presser that he is more than ready to make his Ohioan rival pay and that he intends on coming out of that ring the clear winner.

Talking to fighthype.com about Broner’s antics, Porter was adamant that he won’t let “The Problem” get under his skin. Asked if he felt that was Broner’s intention with the verbal barbs he directed towards the former IBF champion and father Kenny, “Showtime” said;

“Of course. He’s trying to see how I’m going to react and you know – I don’t give anyone the satisfaction of having what they want, so it’s very easy for me not to react to that kind of stuff and let it do anything to me. It doesn’t faze me at all.”

The one concern most fans had is whether Porter would struggle to boil down to the 144 lb catch-weight and if the 10 lb re-hydration clause would negatively impact upon him.

He insists there have been no problems, despite being perceived to be complaining to the media earlier this week about the weight and the fact that Broner – who insisted upon it – was refusing to talk about the clause.

“No man. I pulled off my shirt to let everybody out there know the weight is right and Friday afternoon we’ll be on the scale and ready to make that one happen.”

Asked how the fight will go, Porter was crystal clear;

“Punishment. We’re looking to punish Adrien Broner, looking to bring it to him all night, give him some looks he’s never seen before, some adjustments, we’re looking to mix it up and do it all on Saturday night. We gonna get that ‘W’.

If he can put Broner under the kind of relentless pressure Marcos Maidana did, then it could well be a very long night for “AB”.

This could be the best dust-up Premier Boxing Champions has delivered thus far.
