Shawn Porter: ‘I Was & Still Am Ready for Keith Thurman’

Former IBF welterweight champion, Shawn Porter, says he is still waiting on official confirmation of date and venue ahead of his mooted clash with fellow Al Haymon fighter and WBA (reg) champion, Keith Thurman.

Porter had been hoping for a date before the end of the year for the fight with Florida’s Thurman, who himself has repeatedly stated he wants a ‘big ending’ to 2015 after what some people have seen as an ‘indifferent’ year for ‘One Time.’

Porter last boxed in June, when he beat, and essentially dominated, Adrien Broner in their battle for Ohioan bragging rights, and says he is doing all the right things in terms of ticking over, while he awaits official confirmation of the Thurman fight.

“I’m still waiting. There’s no official date or no official venue,” Porter told fighthype.com. “I’m maintaining right now, and what I mean by that is I’m staying where I need to be mentally.

“I’m still focused on this fight with Thurman, still training four, sometimes five times a week. Still doing everything I need to do,” he added before saying the ‘official camp has not started due to not having an official date.’

Probed on why there has been a delay in getting things signed, ‘Showtime’ was keen to state he was ready and willing for Dec, and could only speculate on the causes.

“Two things maybe. The money might not have been right and I also heard that the date they had [in Vegas] in December, there was already an MMA event going on at the MGM.

“The other thing is maybe it was too soon for Keith? I don’t know? All I know is that we were ready for Dec. 13 I think it might have been, and we will be ready for whenever that fight comes.”
