Weigh-In results: David “Ava” Avanesyan (21-1-1, 11 KOs) 146.7lbs vs “Sugar” Shane Mosley (49-9-1, 41 KOs) 146lbs

The ring return of future Hall-of-Famer and boxing great ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley will be exclusively live on BoxNation as he challenges interim WBA welterweight champion David Avanesyan this Saturday night. 44-year-old Mosley is coming off an impressive stoppage win over Venezuelan Patrick Lopez last December as he takes on the tough Russian Avanesyan, who has just a solitary defeat on his record after 23 fights.

The victor of the bout is stipulated by the WBA to face the winner of next month’s clash between Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, increasing the stakes for both fighters as they look to capture the regular world title at 147-pounds.

Taking place at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, three-weight world champion Mosley will have the backing of boxing icon and new trainer Roberto Duran in his corner.

“I plan to put on a clinic,” Mosley said. “I’m not just going to win. I’m going to annihilate him. In 2009 they said I was done but they were wrong. I’m glad people know this is a real competitive fight. It will be a challenge, but when I win, the world will know.”

Mosley has bounced back with two impressive wins since his 2013 stoppage loss against Anthony Mundine, gaining victories against former two-weight champion Ricardo Mayorga before his most recent triumph over Lopez.

Overcoming Avanesyan will prove his stiffest test since Mundine, however, with the skilled Russian being first-ranked by the WBA and having never been stopped in his career.

“Sugar” Shane Mosley, is back with a bang on May 28th, 2016 at the gorgeous Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ. Soon after Mosley’s December 17th win over two time Olympian Patrick Lopez, Shane entered into negotiations with not one but TWO current World Champions for a fight in the summer. After months of going back and forth, both champions backed out to opt for what each cites as “an easier defense” than Mosley. Mosley’s search to get a world title fight continued until one courageous fighter and his manager accepted the Mosley challenge. David Avanesyan is currently ranked #1 in the world with the WBA and the current interim WBA Welterweight World Champion. Avanesyan has held 6 titles in his time as a professional fighter and recently won the WBA title against Charlie Navarro (a top rated fighter).

Former three-division champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley is proud to announce that he is bringing International Boxing Hall of Fame member Roberto “Manos De Piedra” Duran on as his trainer for his upcoming world title fight.

Duran, who defeated several of the top names in sport and is regarded by many as the greatest Latino fighter of all time, is looking to make Mosley into an even greater force in boxing.

After ending a brief retirement, Mosley went 2-0 in 2015 and in the upcoming few days will announce his next fight which will be for a world title. Mosley has stated on numerous occasions that he came back to the sport to face the biggest possible names and believes that Duran will help him achieve his goals.

“I am very happy to have Duran on my team. This is the type of addition that will push me even farther,” said Mosley. “He is a fighter that I looked up to when I was coming up. How can you not learn from a legend like him?”
