Orlando Salido (42-12-2, 29 KOs) defeated the tough hard hitting #2 WBO Terdsak Kokietgym (53-5-1, 33 KOs) by a harder than expected 11th round knockout last Saturday night at the Auditorio Municipal Fausto Gutiérrez Moreno, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

#1 WBO Salido won the interim WBO super featherweight title with the important victory. However, it was a hard fight for Salido, as he was put down on the canvas three times in the fight in getting dropped in the 1st, 2nd and 5th rounds.

Salido said afterwards that the knockdowns were clash knockdowns, but if you look at the hard left hands that Kokietgym hit Salido with, it’s hard to see those knockdowns as flash knockdowns. Those looked like legit knockdowns. Salido was hurt in each of them, but you’ve got to give him a ton of credit for getting up each time to keep battling on. For his part, Kokietgym was knocked down 4 times in the fight in getting knocked down in the 1st, 4th, 7th and 11th round.

Kokietgym took some awful punishment in the 10th round especially. When he came out for the 11th round, he immediately went to the ropes and bounced his back off of them in clear sign that he was hurt. Salido immediately went up to Kokietgym and nailed him with 4 head shots that put him down flat on his back on the canvas.

There was no way that Kokietgym was going to get up from that knockdown because he was badly hurt. He stayed down for a long time before he was finally helped back up.

The victory now puts Salido in line for a shot at the WBO super featherweight title. Salido also reportedly is interested in going after WBA champion Takashi Uchiyama or Takashi Miura. Either one of those guys would be a good fight for Salido to take.
