By Rob Smith: Former two time middleweight title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (55-6-1, 48 KO’s) defeated former WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir (49-15, 15 KO’s) by a 5th round stoppage tonight to win the vacant World Boxing Federation super middleweight title at the Gimnasio Miguel Alemán Valdez, Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico. Rubio battered the 41-year-old Baldomir with power shots in rounds one through four. Following the 4th round, Baldomir failed to come out for the fifth round.
Rubio, 32, was coming off of a 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. from February of this year in San Antonio, Texas.
24-year-old middleweight Marco Reyes (25-1, 21 KO’s) defeated Julio Garcia (45-7, 38 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision. The final judges’ scores were 99-91, 96-95 and 96-94, all for Reyes.
Irma Garcia (4-0-1, 1 KO’s) defeated 44-year-old Laura Serrano (17-5-3, 6 KO’s) by an 8 round points decision.
